Asthma

What is Asthma?

Asthma is a condition in which airways to the lungs are swollen and restricted. Symptoms of asthma include shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and tightness in the chest. Causes of asthma can range from allergies (dust, dander, pollen) to respiratory infections.

Treatments for asthma include using inhalers. Common drug classes used to treat asthma are 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors, beta agonists, mast cell stabilizers, leukotriene receptor antagonists, methylxanthines, methylxanthine / expectorant combinations, anti-IgEs, beta-2 agonist / corticosteroid combinations, and corticosteroids. Some medications require medical supplies and devices to administer the dosage.
