What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is the abnormal growth of cells in the breast tissue. There are different types of breast cancer but ductal carcinoma is the most common. Breast cancer usually occurs in women over age 50, but can still occur in men.

Treatments for breast cancer include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and hormonal therapy. Common drug classes used to treat breast cancer are androgens, alkylating drugs, aromatase inhibitors, estrogen agonist/antagonists, estrogens, gonadotropin releasing hormone agonists, HER2 receptor antagonists, kinase inhibitors, microtubule inhibitors, nucleoside metabolic inhibitors, and RANKL inhibitors.
