What is Diarrhea?

Diarrhea is when loose, watery stool is passed more than three times a day. Causes may be bacterial, viral, or disease. Symptoms include fatigue, weakness, and dehydration.

Treatments for diarrhea include drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding certain foods and taking medications. Common drug classes used to treat diarrhea are anticholinergic / antidiarrheal combinations, antidiarrheals, antiprotozoals, glycopeptide antibiotics, nitroimidazole antibiotics, opioids, rifamycins, and serotonin antagonists.
