What is Hepatitis A?

Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver due to the hepatitis A virus. It causes the liver to swell and can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. There may be no symptoms with hepatitis A.

Treatment may not be needed for hepatitis A besides liver monitoring. A liver transplant may be needed if there is liver failure. Vaccinations can also be given.
