What is Hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a viral infection of the liver due to the hepatitis C virus. It causes the liver to swell and can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. There is no vaccine or cure for hepatitis C.

Treatment for hepatitis C includes taking medication. Common drug classes used to treat hepatitis C are hepatitis C protease inhibitors, thrombopoiesis stimulating agents, interferon alphas, and nucleoside analogue antivirals. Vaccinations can also be given.
