What is PMDD?

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a condition that occurs several days before a woman begins her period. PMDD symptoms are more severe than PMS symptoms. Symptoms range from mood swings to fatigue to irritability.

Treatment for PMDD involves making changes in diet, exercising more, and taking medications to manage symptoms. Common drug classes used to treat PMDD are SSRIs, estrogen / progestin / folate combinations, and estrogen / progestin combinations.
